A bus crew member tragically lost his life on Sunday after falling off a moving bus and being crushed by its wheels while attempting to load passengers and goods.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) confirmed the incident, which occurred along the Dandanda-Jotsholo Road at approximately 1:30 am. The victim was working as a loader for Dubbies Bus Service and had been hanging precariously on the bus when the accident happened.
National police spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi, expressed concern over the incident and issued a strong warning to bus operators and crew about road safety.
"The police warn bus operators and crew to be road safety conscious and ensure that they do not allow loaders or conductors to hang dangerously on moving vehicles," Nyathi said.
According to reports, the loader slipped while clinging to the bus, which led to the fatal accident.
The ZRP emphasized the need for greater vigilance and adherence to safety protocols to prevent similar tragedies.
"This loss of life underscores the importance of valuing the sanctity of life and following proper procedures during passenger and goods loading," Nyathi added.
The incident has prompted calls for stricter enforcement of safety regulations within the public transport sector to ensure the safety of crew members and passengers alike.
