A 36-year-old man, Casper Mhari, tragically lost his life following a violent altercation over a sex worker in Driefontein, Midlands province, last weekend.
According to provincial police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, the quarrel between Mhari and 33-year-old Marshal Shiri of Nyumbi 1 Village escalated when the two men argued over a woman in the area. Shiri, in a fit of rage, grabbed a log and struck Mhari three times on the head, causing him to fall unconscious.
"Mhari fell down and became unconscious. He was rushed to Muonde Hospital, where he later died from his injuries," Inspector Mahoko confirmed.
At the time of the incident, Mhari had been drinking beer at Mandipezano homestead in the Driefontein area with 36-year-old Evans Shonhiwa of Chaka, Chirumhanzu. The argument reportedly arose during their gathering, and despite efforts to get Mhari medical attention, he succumbed to his injuries.
The police have launched an investigation into the incident, and Shiri is currently in custody, facing charges of murder. Inspector Mahoko urged the public to avoid resorting to violence in resolving disputes, emphasizing that such tragic outcomes could have been prevented.
