Namibian President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah arrived in Zimbabwe last night ahead of her scheduled meeting with Southern African Development Community (SADC) Chairperson, President Emmerson Mnangagwa, at State House this morning. The visit underscores the ongoing efforts to strengthen regional cooperation within SADC.

Upon arrival at Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport, President Nandi-Ndaitwah was warmly welcomed by Zimbabwe's Vice President Kembo Mohadi, Ambassador to Namibia Melody Chaurura, Minister of Skills Audit and Development Professor Paul Mavima, and other senior government officials.

This visit to Zimbabwe forms part of a broader regional tour that has included stops in Angola, Botswana, Zambia, and Mozambique. It is the Namibian leader's first series of international official engagements since taking office in March 2025.

Prior to arriving in Harare, President Nandi-Ndaitwah held bilateral talks with regional leaders to deepen economic and infrastructural ties. In Mozambique, she met with President Filipe Nyusi to discuss ways to strengthen economic relations that would uplift the livelihoods of citizens in both countries. While in Botswana, discussions with President Duma Boko focused on cooperation in diamond beneficiation, the potential for a regional oil refinery, and enhancing trade through the Walvis Bay port. The two leaders also agreed to collaborate on upgrading the Trans-Kalahari rail corridor, boosting beef exports, and improving certification for medical products.

In Zambia, the talks with President Hakainde Hichilema centred on expanding infrastructure at border posts, promoting 24-hour border operations, and accelerating the development of the Walvis Bay - Ndola - Lubumbashi Corridor. Both leaders highlighted the importance of private sector partnerships and joint ventures in agriculture and value chains. Meanwhile, in Angola, the discussions revolved around energy cooperation, livestock trade, and reaffirming the historic ties rooted in shared liberation struggles and development goals.

Following her engagements in Mozambique, President Nandi-Ndaitwah proceeded to Zimbabwe to continue her mission of fostering regional integration and economic collaboration under the SADC framework. The meeting with President Mnangagwa is anticipated to further solidify bilateral relations and address key development priorities across the region.
