What was meant to be a quick stop at a betting shop turned into a nightmare for a 48-year-old man from Pumula South after his silver Honda Fit disappeared from Bulawayo city centre on Saturday evening.

The man had parked his vehicle (Registration: AHF 4044) between 5th and 6th Avenue along Herbert Chitepo Street at around 6:45 PM before heading into Africa Bet Shop. However, when he returned just 45 minutes later, the car was nowhere to be found.

"I made sure the windows and doors were locked, but the boot wasn't working," said the devastated owner. "I never thought someone could steal it in broad daylight near a busy street."

The stolen vehicle is valued at approximately US$3,000. Police confirmed that it has not yet been recovered.

"We are investigating the matter," said Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Nomalanga Msebele. "We urge vehicle owners not to leave their cars unattended for long, especially in high-traffic areas."

This incident highlights the growing insecurity on Bulawayo's streets, where even a brief 45-minute stop can lead to a significant loss. Residents are warned to remain vigilant and take extra precautions.
