Senator Morgan Femai, a founding member of the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC), has died.

The news was announced by former Citizens for Change spokesperson Chalton Hwende via his X account.

"So sad to learn of the passing of Senator Morgan Femai this morning, a true giant in the spheres of Zimbabwean politics and sport. He was a man of the people, whose life was dedicated to the twin passions of democratic change and football excellence," Hwende posted.

Femai was among the early architects of the MDC, standing firm in the struggle for a democratic Zimbabwe. He served as Chairman of Harare Province under the leadership of the late President Morgan Tsvangirai, helping to shape the party's grassroots mobilisation and political strategy.

Hwende described Femai as a steadfast comrade, strategic organiser, and voice for the voiceless, whose contributions to Zimbabwe's democratic journey are etched in history.

Outside politics, Femai was a prominent figure in Zimbabwean football, serving as a long-time leader of Dynamos Football Club supporters.

"In this moment of grief, my thoughts and prayers are with his family, whom he cherished dearly. May you find comfort in the vast legacy of principle, service, and love he leaves behind," Hwende said.

He also extended condolences to Femai's fellow MDC comrades and the Dynamos football community, saying the loss of such a pillar is felt by all who shared in his journey.

"Femai fought the good fight, he finished the race, and he kept the faith. His memory will forever inspire us," Hwende added.
