3 dead, 18 injured in Harare-Mutare road head-on crash

At least three people have died and 18 others injured in a head-on collision along the Harare–Mutare Highway, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) have confirmed.
The accident occurred yesterday at the 135-kilometre peg of the busy highway, involving a Nissan Caravan kombi carrying 19 passengers towards Mutare and a Toyota Mark II traveling in the opposite direction with no occupants.
"The ZRP confirms a fatal road traffic accident which occurred on 23/10/25 where three people were killed while 18 others were injured at the 135-kilometre peg along Harare-Mutare Road," said ZRP national spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi in a statement.
The bodies of the deceased were taken to Rusape General Hospital mortuary for post-mortem examination, while the injured were admitted to the same hospital for treatment.
The Harare–Mutare Highway, a critical route linking the capital to Zimbabwe's eastern border, has a history of fatal crashes, often attributed to speeding and reckless driving, raising ongoing concerns about road safety along the corridor.
