Tensions have flared at Highlanders Football Club after players refused to train on Thursday morning, demanding payment of their outstanding signing-on fees.
Club Chairman Kenneth Mhlophe confirmed the standoff, saying efforts were underway to address the players' grievances.
"Yes, the players did not train this morning as they are demanding their signing-on fees. We are engaging them and working to resolve the issue," Mhlophe told reporters.
The training boycott comes just two days before Highlanders' Premier Soccer League clash with Simba Bhora on Saturday, raising concerns over the team's readiness and morale ahead of the crucial fixture.
In a related development, the club also cancelled its traditional Thursday pre-match press conference, a move sources say is linked to the ongoing financial dispute.
The situation highlights growing pressure within the Bulawayo giants' camp as the season nears its end, with players reportedly frustrated by delays in contractual payments.
Highlanders are expected to issue an official statement once negotiations with the players are concluded.
