HARARE - ZANU-PF Central Committee member Dr Kudakwashe Tagwirei has pledged more than US$5 million towards the empowerment of party members in Harare Province, unveiling a package of boreholes, food hampers, scholarships and direct financial support.

The initiative will see all six zones in Harare benefit from 480 solar-powered boreholes, 95,000 food hampers valued at US$1.7 million, US$1.6 million in direct empowerment funds for party members, as well as scholarships for students across the province.

Speaking at the Zone 6 ZANU-PF inter-district meeting, Harare Provincial Chairman Godwills Masimirembwa praised Tagwirei for initiatives that have boosted attendance and morale at party gatherings. "We want to give our thanks to Central Committee member Cde Tagwirei for coming up with such initiatives. We used to have these meetings but with less numbers. Cde Tagwirei brought the aura to the province," Masimirembwa said.

Tagwirei also highlighted the achievements of President Emmerson Mnangagwa's administration, citing economic growth, infrastructure development and social programmes. He pointed to Zimbabwe's recognition by the IMF as the fastest-growing economy in SADC, GDP growth from US$17 billion to US$52.3 billion, and major investments in energy, agriculture, mining and tourism.

Among the milestones he listed were the rehabilitation of 70,000 kilometres of roads, completion of 12 major dams, installation of Hwange Units 7 and 8 adding 600MW to the grid, record wheat and tobacco production, increased gold output, and Zimbabwe's recognition by Forbes as the Best Country to Visit in 2025.

The empowerment drive comes as ZANU-PF intensifies mobilisation efforts in Harare, with Tagwirei positioning his initiatives as part of the broader Vision 2030 agenda.
