President Emmerson Mnangagwa has announced that the government will provide incentives to businesses adopting artificial intelligence (AI) technologies as Zimbabwe seeks to accelerate its digital transformation and participation in the global digital economy.
The pledge was made during the launch of the National Artificial Intelligence Strategy 2026–2030, a five-year policy blueprint designed to guide AI adoption across the public and private sectors.
"My administration stands ready to offer incentives to businesses that integrate artificial intelligence to augment efficiencies and productivity," Mnangagwa said. He noted that the government will also deploy AI in flagship public-sector projects, including precision agriculture, predictive healthcare diagnostics, smart mining, and AI-driven systems to improve service delivery and combat corruption.
The strategy introduces a governance, ethics, and regulatory framework to ensure AI use is human-centric, transparent, and free from bias, with national guidelines on data privacy, fairness, and accountability.
President Mnangagwa emphasized the importance of international collaboration, urging local industry players to adopt global best practices and attract responsible investment. He also highlighted the need to expand research and development in areas such as public health, environmental monitoring, financial technology, urban planning, and energy management.
Information Communication Technology and Courier Services Minister Tatenda Mavetera said the strategy reflects Zimbabwe's ambition to embrace the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
"The National Artificial Intelligence Strategy 2026–2030 highlights our commitment to the Fourth Industrial Revolution and our progress toward a unified digital vision for Zimbabwe," she said.
The initiative is expected to drive innovation, enhance efficiency across key sectors, and position Zimbabwe as a competitive player in the global AI landscape.
