Sisonke Working Together Group Trust, a non-governmental organisation supporting community-driven sustainability projects, has conducted a clean-up campaign in Nyele Village, Bulilima District, Matabeleland South, aimed at reducing carbon emissions caused by debris accumulation.
The initiative was part of a broader environmental effort aligned with World Clean-Up Day and was led by coordinator Misani Moyo.
"The whole idea was to stop pollution by eliminating debris that can emit carbon, nitrous oxide, and methane," said Sisonke director Themba Phiri.
Phiri added that the Trust's long-term goal is to establish a circular economy in Bulilima through a robust recycling programme.
Moyo also shared plans to repurpose waste materials creatively.
"We want to sell recyclable items to buyers, and we're also designing teapots made from Coke and beer cans," he said.
The campaign reflects growing grassroots efforts to tackle climate change and promote sustainable livelihoods in rural Zimbabwe.
