BULAWAYO – The Mthwakazi Republic Party (MRP) has launched a scathing attack on Government over the deteriorating state of roads in Matabeleland, accusing authorities of systematic neglect as rains worsen conditions.

MRP President Mqondisi Moyo expressed outrage, saying the collapsing road infrastructure posed a serious threat to lives, livelihoods and the dignity of citizens.

“I am furious at the state of our roads. Furious at the indifference of a government that sees Matabeleland as a dumping ground. As the rains sweep across Bulawayo and our wider Matabeleland region, our roads are collapsing under neglect — turning into dangerous quagmires that threaten lives, livelihoods, and the very dignity of our people,” Moyo said.

He described the situation as “calculated neglect” rather than incompetence, noting that commuters risk their lives daily while transport operators suffer financial losses due to damaged vehicles.

Moyo highlighted major routes such as the Bulawayo–Nkayi road, the Bulawayo–Victoria Falls highway, and rural feeder roads, which he said had become “death traps” due to poor maintenance and temporary fixes that fail with each rainfall.

“ZANU PF thrives on discrimination. They systematically divert resources meant for Matabeleland to build lavish new cities in Mashonaland, fatten personal bank accounts, and reward their cronies. Our roads crumble while they parade as if development is happening. This is theft. This is betrayal,” he charged.

The MRP leader urged motorists to document and report the worst stretches of road, while calling on Government to allocate funds fairly, strengthen oversight and deliver durable infrastructure.

“We are done with excuses. We are done with neglect. Matabeleland deserves better. Bulawayo deserves better. The people of Mthwakazi deserve dignity, safety, and access to infrastructure that allows them to live, move, and thrive,” Moyo said.

He vowed that the MRP would continue to demand justice, transparency and equitable development, positioning the party as the “vanguard” of accountability in the region.
