Today its 11-11-11 and at 11:11 on 11.11.11 some people expect somwthing awesome to happen.
11-11-11 in America today the surviving veterans of the Vietnam War celebrate this day . The Americans suffered many casualties in this useless war check some figures here. The memorial wall has 58267 names. 997 killed on their first day in Vietnam. 1448 on the last day. 31 sets of brothers died 28 women died there. 15yrs was the youngest soldier. May 1968 recorded 2415 deaths

1918 – Germany signs an armistice agreement with the Allies in a railroad car in the forest of Compiègne, France. The fighting officially ends at 11:00 (The eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month) and this is annually honoured with a two-minute silence. The war officially ends on the signing of the Treaty of Versailles on June 28th 1919.
1921 - The Tomb of the Unknowns is dedicated by US President Warren G. Harding at Arlington National Cemetery.
1930 – Patent number US1781541 is awarded to Albert Einstein and Leó Szilárd for their invention, the Einstein refrigerator.
1940 - The UK Royal Navy launches the first aircraft carrier strike in history, on the Italian fleet at Taranto.

1992 - The Church of England votes to allow women to become priests.
1998 - Israel's Cabinet narrowly ratified a land-for-peace agreement with the Palestinians.
2004 - Yasser Arafat is confirmed dead by the Palestine Liberation Organization, of unidentified causes. Mahmoud Abbas is elected chairman of the PLO minutes later.

1961 - Congolese soldiers murder 13 Italian UN pilots.
1965 - Ian Smith unilaterally declared the independence (UDI) of Rhodesia from the United Kingdom.
1970 - South Africa's last diamond rush rook place at Koster when 167 diggers lined up and raced one another to stake their claims.
1972 - Joseph Lekganyane, leader of the St Engenas Zion Christian Church (the Dove) with support spanning rural and urban areas, died in Warmberg, Pietersburg district.
1975 - Angola gains independence from Portugal (National Day)
1993 - The South African multiparty negotiating forum agreed to repeal section 29 of the Internal Security Act, which allowed for detention without trial. This measure had been one of the most hated pieces of apartheid legislation and had been used against tens of thousands of anti-apartheid protesters.
2003 - The Supreme Court of Zambia ruled that former Zambian president, Frederick Chiluba should stand trial for corruption.
