Monday was a breakthrough day for Alvin "Aluvha" Zhakata afterthe government of Zimbabwe assisted him to secure a visa to pass through Ethiopia.
He embarked on a journey to hike from Zimbabwe to Egypt with a South African sports fan Botha Msila.
On Sunday Zhakata had told journalists that he was not be allowed to enter Ethiopia because they didn't have e-visas.
Later on Monday he tweeted saying, "Please note that I, Alvin Harry Jnr Takura Zhakata am proceeding with my journey to Egypt to watch AFCON. My friend Botha Msila has made his decision, and is already on his way to Nairobi, but I will forge ahead and fulfil my dearly held dream.
"My government through Zimbabwe Embassies in Ethiopia and Egypt intervened and after their swift action, I am now in possession of a Visa to pass thru Ethiopia. Zimbabwe has the best international relations department."
The adventure of the two fans had played out on radio shows, newspapers and television stations across the continent and such influential voices like Robert Marawa, the South African sportscaster, have been following their tale on a daily basis and providing updates of their journey.
