Zimbabwe opened their 2013 Africa Cup of Nations campaign on a poor note after losing 2-1 to Burundi in their Africa Cup of Nations first round qualifier in Bujumbura on Wednesday.

Burundi drew first blood against a depleted Zimbabwe side in the tie.

Rahman Gumbo's men were level in a goalless first half time but fell behind seconds after the restart as Mavugo Lody gave the hosts the lead.

The Warriors battled back and were level as the Hoffenheim striker Knowledge Musona found the target on 60 minutes.

But with the match seemingly headed for a draw, Burundi struck at the death as Valery Nahayo breached the Zimbabwe defence.

South Africa is hosting the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations finals.

The 2013 Africa Cup of Nations format was changed to allow for a speedy conclusion to the qualifiers.

A total of 47 countries entered the competition, including South Africa, which automatically qualified as hosts. The remaining 46 teams will compete in the qualifiers.

In each of the three rounds, teams will be drawn into two-legged home-and-away knock-out ties.

Zimbabwe Starting XI: Kapini, Nyandoro, Chaka, Bhasera, Khumbuyani, Nengomasha, Nyoni, Sibanda, Gutu, Musona, Mguni
