The provincial finals for the Chibuku Road to Fame competition for Matabeleland South will be held in Gwanda this Saturday.

Nine groups are taking part in the competition meant to select the group that will represent the province at the national finals.

The competition, which is sponsored by Delta Beverages, will be held at Mankomo Beerhall at 12 noon.

In a telephone interview yesterday, Matabeleland South National Arts Council of Zimbabwe provincial programmes officer Percy Vela said the panel of judges will comprise Majahawodwa "Jeys Marabini" Ndlovu, Chase Skuza and Densen Kulube.

He said the groups were drawn from Insiza, Beitbridge, Plumtree, Vumbachikwe and Sun Yet Sen.

"We are confident that the experienced panel of judges will come up with the best group to represent the province at the national finals. The competition this year promises to be stiff given the number of groups that entered the competition," said Vela.

He said each group will be given 20 minutes for their act.

"Each group is expected to perform for 20 minutes. There is no limit to the number of songs the group can sing," said Vela.

He said last year's Matabeleland South provincial champions, Motor Super sounds will be guests at the event. "Last year's Road to Fame provincial champions from Ntalale, Motor Super sounds will perform at the venue as part of the entertainment," said Vela.

The groups that have entered the competition are Insiza Express, Vumba Band, The Reason Super Challengers, Big Brother Super Sounds, Matjinge Stars, Tangapasi Band, Vumbachikwe Sounds, Dynamic Brothers and Danger Scorpions.

Meanwhile, Vela said the Chibuku Neshamwari Traditional Dance Competition provincial finals will be held at the end of the month in Filabusi.

"Chibuku Neshamwari will be at Filabusi at Vulindlela Beerhall on 30 June. We will be preparing for that after the Road to Fame competition," said Vela.
