SA Defence Minister's son stabbed to death

SOUTH AFRICA - Police here have confirmed that the son of Defence Minister Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula has been stabbed to death in Bezuidenhout Valley.

Chumani Nqakula was stabbed in the upper body on Saturday and died at the scene. Reports from South Africa say the 23-year-old was killed by someone he knew.

Chumani is the son of Mapisa-Nqakula and former Cabinet Minister Charles Nqakula.

The South African National Defence Force says his mother was on a state visit to Bangkok when news of her son's killing came last night.

Police say a 24-year-old man has been arrested and will appear in court soon.

Police spokesperson Lungelo Dlamini said;

"A young man was stabbed in the upper body and died at the scene. A 24-year-old man has been arrested and at this stage we don't know what the motive for the crime was."
