MDC secretary general Pricilla Misihairabwi-Mushonga has initiated a campaign to procure blankets for maternity wings targeting clinics in rural areas to cater for pregnant women.

Misihairabwi-Mushonga says she has been touched by the plight of women more so as the cold season sets in.

"ln the last 3 months I have visited a number of rural areas and I have been touched by the plight of pregnant mothers in these rural clinics, in particular the lack of blankets and as winter is here, " I have been convicted by the reality that as I and many of us sisters are snuggled in warm beds, many of these women and their tiny babies are freezing, I have checked with National Blankets in Bulawayo and one blanket is only $11,if in all in our numbers deposit for a blanket or 2 we will make this winter bearable," she said.

She said all donations would directly to National Blankets.

"Spare a thought for that woman in Silobela , Tsholotsho , Nkayi in Rusape etc, if you are interested contact me for the details of National Blankets it goes directly there, where whenever they have a good number I will personally deliver them to the clinics, if you want us to give the clinics the names of those who donated we will do so ,if you also will leave your contact details with National Blankets and we will tell where your blankets went," she added.

Early this year, at Sikhobokhobo Clinic in Nkayi, Misihairabwi-Mushonga who is also the minister of Regional Integration and International Cooperation was told that pregnant women, some as young as 13 normally slip on the health facility floor due to lack of beds and blankets.
