Yvonne Musarurwa, a politician from the MDC, has been issued a $100 fine for her involvement in the assault of Kudzanai Mashumba, who served as the party's chief of protocol. This altercation had garnered significant attention in 2021.
The incident took place during a press conference held at the Media Centre in Harare when Mashumba attempted to reveal alleged embezzlement of funds by the party's leader, Douglas Mwonzora.
Musarurwa was present at the event, and along with other opposition members, disrupted it, claiming that Mwonzora had redirected thousands of dollars that belonged to the MDC-T before the party's Extraordinary Congress in 2020.
A video of Mashumba fleeing and seeking refuge in an unknown motorist's truck had gone viral on the day of the incident.
A Harare Magistrate, in a court order dated October 25, found Musarurwa guilty of the assault and imposed a $100 fine. The order stipulates that if she defaults on the payment, she will face four months of imprisonment.
