Presidential spokesperson George Charamba has denied allegations that President Emmerson Mnangagwa and high-ranking government officials are under the influence of controversial businessman Wicknell Chivayo.

Charamba addressed these claims following the circulation of an audio clip on social media, purportedly of Chivayo, boasting about controlling Mnangagwa and state institutions.

Charamba dismissed the clip as fake, criticizing the media for not verifying its authenticity or seeking Chivayo's perspective.

Chivayo himself has also denied the allegations, labeling the recording as fake and part of a deliberate attack on his character by two businessmen, Mike Chimombe and Moses Mpofu, whom he accused of extortion.

Chivayo refuted claims of benefiting from dubious government contracts, including a $40 million deal with the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC).

He asserted that he has never bribed government officials and has no undue influence over the President or any state entities.
