In a stunning development, Morocco has sensationally withdrawn from the Hollywoodbets COSAFA Cup 2025, leaving organizers scrambling to fill the void. East African football powerhouse Tanzania has been invited to complete the 14-team lineup for the tournament scheduled to take place in Mangaung, Bloemfontein, from June 4 to 15.

The inclusion of Tanzania's Taifa Stars has led to a slight reshuffle in the fixtures. Tanzania will compete in Group C, starting their campaign against Madagascar on June 7, followed by a match against Eswatini on June 11. Both games will be held at the Toyota Stadium.

For Tanzania, this tournament is about much more than regional bragging rights. With the CHAN 2025 tournament set to be hosted on home soil in partnership with Kenya and Uganda in August, alongside looming World Cup qualifiers and the AFCON 2025 finals in Morocco, the Taifa Stars are gearing up with serious ambitions.

Tanzania's participation in COSAFA is not new. The team made their debut in 1997, finishing in fourth place. After a lackluster return in 2015, they made a strong statement in 2017 by eliminating hosts South Africa and securing the bronze medal through a shootout win over Lesotho.

Having qualified for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournaments in 2019 and 2023, Tanzania arrives at the 2025 COSAFA Cup with a point to prove and high hopes of making a significant impact.
