Bogus cop detains sex worker

A 25-year-old man from Bulawayo has been arraigned before the courts for detaining a sex worker claiming that he was a police officer and she was under arrest.
The man, Norman Muzira of House Number 4615 Nketa 7 was charged with impersonation. Prosecuting, Caroline Matanga said on 23 November at about 1 am along corner George Silundika and 12th Avenue, Muzira approached Virginia Ncube who was loitering with her friends for purposes of prostitution. He then told them he was a police officer and that they were under arrest for loitering.
Ncube's leading to the escape of the complainant's friends. Muzira allegedly went on to steal Ncube's money hidden in her braa before dragging her to a sanitary lane.
The court heard that he signaled a taxi to stop and shoved Ncube inside while telling the driver that he was a police officer on duty and wanted to chase after Ncube's friends.
Muzira instructed the taxi driver to park at Hustlers Pub where he alighted and left Ncube in the car.
Seeing that Muzira was not returning, the taxi driver advised Ncube to report the matter to the police. Muzira was later arrested and peared before Bulawayo magistrate Ms Gladmore Mushove. He was remanded out of custody on $50 bail to Friday.
