Zimbabwe People First interim leader Joice Mujuru has said several ex-Zipra war veterans are scavengers as they are living at a garbage dumpsite in Bulawayo.
Addressing thousands of ZimPF supporters at Pelandaba Stadium in Gwanda on Saturday, Mujuru said she visited Ngozi Mine on Friday and was shocked to see ex-Zipra war veterans living at a garbage dumpsite.
"Yesterday (Friday) I visited Ngozi Mine near Bulawayo.
"What I saw there is painful. Ah! Zwakaoma.
"I was shocked to see ex-freedom fighters surviving on scavenging in a refuse dump site, and this is in a Zimbabwe that has been free for 36 years.
"On the other hand we have people building 52 - bedroomed house."
Mujuru promised to come to the rescue of impoverished former liberation fighters in the country and to end corruption once she assumes power.
