SEVEN armed robbers recently stormed Zvimba Rural District Council warehouse, attacking a security guard before stealing property worth over US$22 000.

Provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Margaret Chitove confirmed the incident saying the robbers were in police custody.

The security guard, Mr Harrison Mande (38), was approached by two unidentified men who manhandled him at knife-point.

They took away his baton before dragging him into the warehouse yard.

Two other unidentified males joined in, tying the guard's hands and legs using a rope and a piece of wire.

He was struck on the head using a baton and stabbed once by a knife above the left ear.

"Accused persons went on to break a locked storeroom door using an unknown object before they looted borehole equipment, toilet seats and basins, and copper pipes all valued at US$22 493," said Insp Chitove.

The robber got away with the loot in a Nissan UD truck registration number AEX 4734 towards Kutama.

Reports were made at Kutama and Zvimba police stations with officers reacting promptly leading to the arrest of the seven.

Council chief executive, Mr Enias Chidakwa said borehole equipment accessories, cylinders, copper pipes, toilet seats and basins purchased by the council towards safe water delivery in the district were some of the material stolen.

The suspects are expected to appear in court soon.
