HIGHLANDERS Football Club training grounds at the clubhouse are close to being used by the first team for training sessions, with an inspection to be conducted this week to ascertain their readiness for usage.
Work on getting the training pitches up to standard has been going on for almost a year and indications are that in 2022, Highlanders will finally start using their own facilities in preparation for matches.
Vezigama Dlodlo, the Highlanders welfare manager said they were planning to conduct an inspection this week to see if the grounds are ready for the first team.
"We will do the final inspection this week, that is when we will decide if the grounds are ready for use,'' said Dlodlo.
Highlanders gave their players time off to join the festive season when the team held its final training session with a gym workout on 21 December.
Dlodlo stated that they will make a decision on when they are resuming training.
Mandla "Lulu" Mpofu, the Highlanders coach is with the Warriors in Cameroon for the Africa Cup of Nations, which means that his lieutenants, Bekithemba Ndlovu and Julias Ndlovu will take care of the team whenever they resume preparations for the resumption of league action next month.
Highlanders' development team, Bosso90 has been busy preparing for their Zifa Southern Region Wafa Wafa knockout competition semi-final clash against Hwange at the Colliery Stadium on Saturday.
