An armed member of Citizen Coaliation for Change (CCC) in Chiweshe has been severely beaten by ZANU PF youths after he tried to block their youth leader at a meeting on Sartuday.
Enzo Mukome of CCC had the police to thank after the ruling party's youths disarmed him and assaulted him.
CCC Mashonaland Central provincial chairperson George Gwarada said their member was assaulted because CCC was gaining ground more than ZANU PF and Mukome was one of the mobilisation team.
"It is so unfortunate that ZANU PF has felt the heat of the looming by-election since we have covered more ground than ZANU PF they felt threatened by our mrmber Mukome who is part of the mobilization team hence they assaulted him," Gwarada said.
Mazowe District Coordinating Committee youth chairperson Timothy Gorejena dismissed assault charges and claimed that Mukome was armed with a fire arm and blocked their youth leader from passing.
"Mukome was armed with a gun and he blocked our youth chair from passing since we had a youth rally in ward 2 ahead of the municipality by election we disarmed him and surrendered him to the police," Gorejena said.
Efforts to contact the police were fruitless.
However CCC President Nelson Chamisa has accused President Emmerson Mnangagwa of unleashing an orgy of political violence in anger after he spurned his offer for a unity government to stop the holding of general electon in 2023.
