Soldier shoots villager, jailed 3 years

A SOLDIER based in Fort Rixon, Matabeleland South province, has been sentenced to an effective three-year jail term for shooting a villager on the leg with an AK47 rifle during a beer brawl in 2020.
Masilinge Right Mula (36) who was deployed at General Dube's farm in Fort Rixon was on Friday convicted for attempted murder by Bulawayo regional magistrate Dambudzo Malunga.
Mula was sentenced to five years in jail, two of which were suspended on condition of good behaviour.
The court heard that Mula fired 25 shots and injured villager Mqedisi Mpofu.
The matter was reported to Mbembesi Police Station, leading to his arrest.
