Man rapes niece, jailed 17 years

A 46-YEAR-OLD Chiweshe man who was left in the custody of his 12-year-old niece was sentenced to 17 years in jail after raping her.
The uncle who cannot be named for ethical reasons will however serve 15 years behind bars after Bindura regional magistrate Estere Chivasa suspended two years on the condition of good behaviour.
Prosecutor Gossy Mudambu told the court that during the month of July at around 8 pm the convict was left in the custody of his niece as her mother attended a funeral.
The sex-starved uncle entered in the complainant's blankets and raped her before threatening to chase her away if she reveals the rape.
When the complainant's mother returned she was told of the crime and filed a police report leading to the arrest of the convict.
