PHOTOS: Police; ZANU PF youths beat up CCC members in Chitungwiza

Members of the Zimbabwe Republic Police and alleged ZANU PF members reportedly attacked and injured CCC candidate for Chitungwiza Ward 7 Lovemore Maiko during the party's door to door election campaign.

He was rushed to the hospital for medical attention.

CCC senior official Job Sikhala said, "Police officers came in tore with crystal meth (Mutoriro) drunken ZANU PF and attacked us when we were engaged in a peaceful door 2 door campaign for our Ward 7 Council by Election Candidate Lovemore Maiko. They attacked us with baton sticks, rubber bullets, logs, stones and axes."

Fadzai Mahere, the CCC Spokesperson, condemned the assault saying, "We condemn the violent attacks by ZANU PF on CCC members following our peaceful Ward 7 Chitungwiza voter mobilization campaign. ZANU PF is doing everything it can to impede the holding of a free and fair election. Cllr Maiko our candidate was also badly injured."
