Ralph Maoneyi, the ward 7 councillor in Kariba, has been elected as the town's mayor. Maoneyi, representing the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) party, secured seven votes, surpassing his closest rival George Masendu, who received five votes during the Tuesday elections.

Tendai Mapondera will serve as Maoneyi's deputy, having run uncontested in the election.

In his acceptance speech, Mayor Maoneyi expressed his commitment to fostering development in the resort town, stating, "I want to thank the community of Kariba for having confidence in me. I will work diligently alongside fellow councillors to ensure that Kariba becomes one of the best towns in the country. Addressing residents' welfare concerns is a top priority for me, and I will strive to promptly resolve any challenges they face."

Tapiwa Tawonameso, the chairperson of the Kariba Urban Residents Association, extended congratulations to Maoneyi, praising him as a visionary leader. Tawonameso expressed optimism that Mayor Maoneyi, with the support of the residents, would bring about significant development in Kariba.
