THE Zimbabwe National Road Administration (Zinara) has disbursed more than ZWL$257 billion between January and September of this year. Zinara's spokesperson, Tsungie Manyeza, confirmed this and mentioned that these recent disbursements also included contributions towards repaying the loan from the Development Bank of Southern Africa.

Looking ahead to next year, Zinara is anticipating a positive shift in the proportion of the total disbursements, favoring road authorities. Manyeza explained, "In the current year, the amount disbursed so far significantly exceeds the originally budgeted ZWL$41 billion, which has been revised to over ZWL$250 billion as of September 3, 2023." She also noted that as road authorities continue to report on their project progress during the fourth quarter, more funding will be made available to expedite outstanding projects before year-end.

Zinara is actively focused on collaborating with road authorities to ensure the progress of road infrastructure projects. They have equipped themselves with qualified engineers across all provinces in Zimbabwe, who are overseeing projects and assisting road authorities in timely reporting for fund disbursements.

Additionally, Zinara is committed to keeping records of the downstream impact of their road maintenance programs, aligning with their dedication to environmental, social, and governance practices. Manyeza stressed the importance of a well-maintained road network as a driver of economic development, facilitating the efficient movement of goods and people. She also mentioned that their projects have created over 900 jobs and led to various levels of skills transfer.

In line with their commitment to sustainability, Zinara is interested in understanding the broader contribution to socio-economic development facilitated by the funds they manage. They appeal to the public to see their compliance in terms of paying road user fees as a partnership for socio-economic development, which, in turn, brings significant downstream benefits, in addition to maintaining a reliable road network.
