A Beitbridge police officer and a collaborator have been apprehended on allegations of car theft. They were discovered in a bush with a South African-registered vehicle for which they could not provide a valid account.
Lane Farai Chidhakwa (36), stationed at the Makhadho Police base, was arrested alongside Vincent Luwizhi (29) from Mabvuku in Harare.
Chidhakwa appears to have been serving as an escort while Luwizhi was driving the vehicle, suspected of being stolen in the neighboring country. They were apprehended by law enforcement officers assigned to combat cross-border crime after eluding a security roadblock at Makhado, located 80 kilometers west of Beitbridge.
As detailed in crime docket CR 10/10/23, both individuals are facing charges of vehicle theft and smuggling, having evaded authorities in Beitbridge. They are scheduled to appear in court today.
