Nelson Chamisa, the leader of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), has condemned the upcoming by-elections as illegitimate, describing them as a "crime," and announced that his party will not participate.

Speaking in an interview with Sources News Media Agency, Chamisa argued that the by-elections were unlawfully created and contrived.

Recently, President Emmerson Mnangagwa scheduled the by-elections for December 9 after the Speaker of Parliament announced vacancies following the recall of 15 legislators by CCC's 'interim secretary general,' Sengezo Tshabangu. However, Chamisa disputes Tshabangu's authority and position within the party.

Tshabangu, in a letter to the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC), stated that only himself and two others, Jabulani Ncube and Mbuso Sisa, would be responsible for signing candidates for the by-elections. Chamisa has dismissed this move.

Chamisa stated, "Tshabangu is not a CCC member. He belongs elsewhere; he's being imposed on the CCC to particularly achieve certain ends."

He argued that the creation of these by-elections and the disputes around the Secretary General position were intended to divert attention from the larger issue of disputed elections.

Chamisa emphasized, "We won the elections on the 23rd of August. We are not interested in side shows, the main show, the grand show, is the issue of having a proper government, a proper election, a legitimate government in Zimbabwe."
