THE Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development has fully decentralised the issuing of number plates as it moves to expedite the process of registering imported vehicles.
Transport and Infrastructural Development Engineer Pedzisai Makumbe confirmed the development in a press statement on Thursday.
"To ensure that there is no one and no place left behind, the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development has fully decentralised the issuance of vehicle registration number plates," he said.
This will address the growing trend of vehicles plying the country's roads without registration plates with some of them being used during robberies.
"Local production of vehicle registration number plates has ensured adequate stock hence motorists are encouraged to visit their nearest ZimPost, Zimra offices or the nearest port of entry to acquire number plates," said Makumbe.
He also warned the public that it is now a chargeable offence to be found driving an unregistered vehicle, emphasising that with immediate effect such cars will be clamped.
