Chinese national in court for US$212 165 theft

A Chinese man, Wang Zhiming (29), appeared in court in Harare facing a theft charge for allegedly stealing US$212,165 from his employer. The charge against him is theft of trust property. He was remanded in custody by Harare magistrate Dennis Mangosi pending a bail application.
According to State prosecutor Thomas Chanakira, the alleged theft was discovered during an audit on May 22, where it was found that US$212,165 deposited by clients for services between January 2022 and February 2024 was missing from the company's accounts. Wang Zhiming is accused of converting this money for personal use.
The court papers did not specify Wang's role at the company, only mentioning that he received the money on behalf of the complainant.
