Two brothers from Mberengwa are on the run after allegedly setting fire to two huts belonging to their neighbours, accusing them of being responsible for the death of their relative.

The incident occurred on November 20 at Village 3B in the Greenspan area under Chief Bvute. According to Midlands Provincial Police Spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, the brothers Jabulani Mazani and Kudakwashe Moyo set the huts ablaze after accusing the owners, Oneday Mlilo (26) and Clere Mlilo (28), of killing their relative.

"The two suspects, Jabulani Mazani and Kudakwashe Moyo, accused Oneday and Clere Mlilo of killing their relative. In an act of vengeance, they approached Oneday, shouting that they wanted to avenge the alleged murder," Mahoko confirmed.

Upon confronting Oneday, the young man reportedly fled the scene. However, the suspects continued with their act of retaliation, reportedly setting Oneday's hut on fire before proceeding to burn down Clere's hut as well.

The fire destroyed property worth an estimated US$930, leaving both families devastated.

Mahoko urged anyone with information on the whereabouts of the suspects, Mazani and Moyo, to come forward and report to the nearest police station. "We are asking the public to assist in locating these two individuals so they can face justice for their actions," Mahoko said.

The incident highlights tensions and conflicts that have escalated into violence, and police are urging community members to resolve disputes peacefully rather than resorting to criminal acts.
