A 26-year-old man appeared in court facing allegations of raping a vendor who had visited his office to collect a debt. Ignatius Chindudzi, who is facing charges of rape, was arraigned before Harare magistrate Mrs. Marehwanazvo Gofa.

According to the State, the alleged incident occurred in October when the complainant went to Chindudzi's office in Harare's Central Business District to retrieve money owed to her. Upon arrival, the complainant found Chindudzi alone in the office.

The State alleges that when the complainant requested her money, Chindudzi questioned why she had rejected his romantic advances. He then locked the door, spread a blanket on the floor, and ordered the woman to lie down. When she refused, Chindudzi allegedly forced her to the ground and raped her.

Following the incident, Chindudzi reportedly told the victim he would return and left the office. The complainant waited for an hour before deciding to leave the premises.

A few days later, the woman discovered she had contracted a sexually transmitted infection and confided in her cousin about the ordeal. The cousin confronted Chindudzi and subsequently filed a police report, leading to his arrest.

The case has been adjourned for further investigations, with Chindudzi remaining in custody.
