Shamu Calls for Mnangagwa to Extend Term
12 hrs ago | Views
ZANU PF Deputy Political Commissar Webster "Cremora" Shamu has publicly urged President Emmerson Mnangagwa and First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa to extend their stay in power beyond the constitutional term limit, sparking controversy.
During a recent visit to the First Family's Pricabe Farm in Kwekwe, Midlands Province, as part of a parliamentary farm tour, Shamu claimed that both ruling party and opposition legislators supported President Mnangagwa's continued leadership beyond 2028.
"The MPs are pleading with us," Shamu said in Shona. "That is why we kneel before you, First Lady, to ask you to remain in leadership beyond 2028."
Shamu's comments have reignited criticism of his history of effusive praise for party leaders. During the tenure of former President Robert Mugabe, Shamu famously likened Mugabe to "Cremora," a popular powdered milk brand, and expressed his wish for Mugabe to rule indefinitely.
After the 2017 coup that ousted Mugabe, Shamu faced resistance as he sought to align himself with Mnangagwa's faction but persisted despite frequent criticism at ZANU PF events.
