A drinking spree in Manyarere Village, Mudzi, ended in tragedy last week when three men allegedly turned on their drinking companion, fatally assaulting him after a misunderstanding.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) confirmed the incident in a statement, identifying the victim as Paradzai Gande and the suspects as Willard Macharenge, Johannes Makitsi, and William Dhlamini.
According to the police, the suspects used switches to assault Gande indiscriminately all over his body following a dispute during their beer-drinking session. The severe injuries inflicted during the attack led to Gande's death.
Police urged members of the public to resolve conflicts amicably and avoid resorting to violence.
"The suspects assaulted Gande with switches indiscriminately all over his body following a misunderstanding during a drinking spree. The victim succumbed to injuries sustained during the assault," read part of the police statement.
The suspects are now in police custody and are expected to appear in court soon to face charges of murder. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
