Former Zimbabwe cricketer Andrew Pycroft has been selected as one of the match referees for the prestigious International Cricket Council (ICC) Men's Champions Trophy, set to be co-hosted by Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates from February 19 to March 9.

Pycroft, who had an illustrious cricketing career, will serve on the officiating team alongside renowned figures in the sport, including David Boon and Ranjan Madugalle. The trio will oversee the action in one of the most significant tournaments in international cricket.

Born on June 6, 1956, Pycroft's playing career spanned from 1983 to 1992, during which he represented Zimbabwe in three Test matches and 20 one-day internationals. As a competitive batsman, he made valuable contributions to his team, captaining the national side and leaving a lasting impact on the sport in Zimbabwe. Pycroft later took on important roles in the development of cricket, including managing the Zimbabwe Under-19 team, serving as a national selector, and coaching the national team.

After resigning from his position as coach during the 2003 World Cup finals, Pycroft has remained involved in cricket, transitioning to the role of a match referee. His extensive knowledge of the game and leadership experience has made him a respected figure in the cricketing community.

Pycroft joins a distinguished group of officials for the Champions Trophy, which also includes 12 highly experienced umpires, such as Richard Kettleborough, Chris Gaffaney, Kumar Dharmasena, Richard Illingworth, Paul Reiffel, and Rod Tucker, all members of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Umpires.

Commenting on the selection, Sean Easey, ICC Senior Manager – Umpires and Referees, expressed confidence in the panel's ability to manage the high-profile tournament. "We are pleased to announce our panel of match officials for the upcoming Men's Champions Trophy. This is a credentialed officiating team whose expertise will be valuable in this high-profile tournament," said Easey.

"We always try to name the most suitable and deserving officials for any event, and we are confident this group will do a fine job across the matches in Pakistan and the UAE. I wish them all the best and hope they have a memorable tournament," he added.

Pycroft's appointment as a match referee underscores his enduring commitment to the game of cricket, further cementing his legacy in the sport both in Zimbabwe and internationally.
