Businessman Wicknell Chivayo has once again lived up to his reputation for flashy generosity, showering his childhood friend Tazvi "Chief J" Mhaka with extravagant birthday gifts that underscore their deep bond and shared journey from humble beginnings.
To mark Mhaka's birthday on Sunday, 25 May, Chivayo took to social media with a heartfelt tribute, reminiscing about their days at Cranborne Boys High School when the two would share lunchboxes, play chess, and walk home with nothing but dreams of success.
In an emotional post, Chivayo quoted the late Oliver Mtukudzi's song Jeri to highlight the strength of their friendship, writing:
"HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO AN AMAZING FRIEND…ZVAMUNOONA HUSAHWIRA HUNOKUNDA HUKAMA…It's hard to believe how time flies. It feels like YESTERDAY, when we shared a desk in Form 1A1 at Cranborne Boys High School, tichitamba Chess during lunch time, sharing our lunchboxes and walking home without a CENT in our TORN pockets. As two young BROKE BEST FRIENDS all we did was having what seemed to be WILD dreams of growing to become very RICH GUYS. We had nothing but a DREAM and we thank GOD we started from the bottom, now we're here sitting at the TOP!!!"
Acknowledging the challenge of finding a gift worthy of Mhaka's status - the "BIGGEST BOSS in town" who drives a Bentley - Chivayo settled on something practical yet luxurious. He revealed that Mhaka should visit FaraMatsi Motors on Tuesday, 26 May, to collect a fully paid 2025 Toyota Land Cruiser VXR 300 series, ideal for weekend farm visits.
Not stopping there, Chivayo invited Mhaka's wife, Ruby, to select any colour she desired for her own brand new 2025 Toyota Fortuner 4×4 2.8 GD6, calling it a deserved "run around car for weekend errands like grocery shopping."
In his social media post, Chivayo expressed deep appreciation for their friendship and success:
"I have EVERY REASON to celebrate you on this special occasion of your BIRTHDAY my brother ‘CHIEF J'. Today, I celebrate our UNSTOPPABLE journey of GRACE, grind, and greatness. I celebrate another year of BROTHERHOOD and real FRIENDSHIP. I celebrate a man who has inspired me, challenged me and sharpened me."
In a final surprise, Chivayo announced a cash gift of US$250,000, instructing Mhaka to collect it from his finance director as "small birthday POCKET MONEY" to spoil himself and his family.
"This is the little that I can afford. Please BEAR with me. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, my brother. May the Lord bless you RICHLY and ABUNDANTLY, beyond your WILDEST IMAGINATION and may your territory be expanded beyond any measure."
The lavish gifts and emotional tribute have since captured public attention, highlighting a rare display of generosity and loyalty in Zimbabwe's business and social circles.
