Gwanda Municipality is facing scrutiny after Acting Auditor General Rheah Kujinga's 2024 audit revealed that three council vehicles were not registered in the municipality's name.

The audit report indicated that Kujinga was not provided with the registration books for the vehicles, raising concerns over possible misappropriation. The report warned that failure to register the vehicles in the council's name could result in the municipality losing the vehicles in the event of legal disputes.

Kujinga recommended that the municipality take immediate steps to register the vehicles under its ownership. Council management acknowledged the oversight and confirmed that a change of ownership process was underway.

The audit highlights ongoing challenges in asset management and accountability at local government level, underscoring the need for strict adherence to proper registration and record-keeping procedures.
