A security guard has been arraigned before the Gwanda Regional Court on allegations of attempted murder after he reportedly stabbed a man multiple times during a violent late-night incident.

The accused, Mpumelelo Masuku (40), appeared before Regional Magistrate Sithembiso Ndebele, where he pleaded not guilty. He was remanded in custody until 10 October 2025.

According to prosecutor Ngonidzashe Shumba, the attack occurred on 14 September 2025 at around 8PM at Ndlovini Bottle Store, Bethel Business Centre, Guyu.

"Masuku was manning the main entrance of the bottle store. The complainant, who was inside, wanted to leave but was blocked by the accused. He sneaked out, angering Masuku, who charged at him and pushed him," Shumba told the court.

The confrontation escalated into a terrifying chase. The complainant reportedly fell to the ground but managed to rise and run before being pursued. "When the complainant fell and lay on his stomach, Masuku produced an okapi knife and stabbed him six times on the back, once on the left thigh and once on the right thigh. He also picked up a brick and struck him on the left cheek," Shumba added.

Masuku allegedly fled the scene, leaving the victim badly injured. Villagers rushed to assist, and police were alerted before the victim was taken to hospital for urgent treatment.

Masuku remains in custody as investigations continue, with the case expected back in court next week.
