A Plumtree man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison after being convicted of raping a 61-year-old woman in Mphoengs.
The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) confirmed that Thembinkosi Ncube, 29, committed the offence on April 9 around 8pm. He gained entry into the woman's home through a window while she was asleep.
"The victim woke up and found the offender inside her home. He forcibly undressed her, ordered her to lie down and raped her," the NPAZ said in a statement.
Ncube threatened to harm the victim if she reported the crime before fleeing through the same window. The traumatised woman later reported the attack to police, leading to Ncube's arrest following a manhunt.
The Plumtree Magistrates' Court sentenced him to 20 years behind bars, with authorities saying the ruling should serve as a strong warning to would-be offenders.
