Zanu-PF UK in turmoil

Kudzai Makuku, a prominent member of Zanu-PF UK District, has issued a robust response to attempts by acting district chairman Muneyi Zavare to dismiss him over allegations of factionalism, posing security threats, and questions about his source of income.

Makuku described the allegations as "false and baseless," accusing Zavare of orchestrating the claims to conceal financial mismanagement and consolidate personal power within the district's leadership. He said he had previously refrained from responding to avoid "wasting valuable time on petty political theatrics," but the escalation of misinformation left him no choice but to set the record straight.

"The chairman must explain to the executive where the money went. He must show them the bank statements! For over five years, he has consistently refused to do so, and year after year, district funds continue to vanish without explanation," Makuku said. "My only ‘crime' has been to demand accountability. For that, I am now being punished."

He also criticised the procedure leading to his attempted dismissal as "irregular, unconstitutional, and a direct violation of established party processes," emphasizing that no one can be dismissed without a charge sheet or disciplinary hearing.

Makuku highlighted what he described as recurring financial irregularities, citing a recent £5,000 donation intended for printers and laptops, of which only one laptop and one printer were ever delivered. He challenged Zavare to publicly account for the missing funds and accused him of attempting to silence dissent through fabricated claims of factionalism and security risks.

Rejecting allegations of factionalism, Makuku said they were "a convenient smokescreen" to distract from Zavare's misconduct. He stressed that his use of the motto NaMukanya Tinosvika Chete is a reflection of his cultural identity rather than a political faction, noting that he had used it long before the current Vice President assumed office.

He further condemned attempts to create divisions among party members, asserting that all loyal members support the entire Zanu-PF leadership collectively.

Addressing questions about his personal finances, Makuku dismissed them as "embarrassingly ignorant and deeply misplaced," highlighting differences in professional income and accusing Zavare of making unfair comparisons.

Concluding his statement, Makuku reaffirmed his commitment to integrity, accountability, and service, insisting that the smear campaign against him would not succeed. "Those who have abused party funds are now trying to bury the truth by fabricating allegations against me. But the truth will always prevail," he said.
