Two armed robbers stormed the home of Matabeleland South Provincial Information Officer Mr Austin Nyathi on Wednesday night and stole his Government-issued Toyota Hilux GD6 at gunpoint.

The robbery occurred at Mr Nyathi's residence in Senondo suburb, moments after he had parked the vehicle.

National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the incident, saying the assailants confronted the official soon after he entered his house.

"The complainant, who is an employee of the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, arrived at his home and parked the vehicle. As he entered his house, two unidentified men followed him and demanded the car keys," said Commissioner Nyathi.

He said one of the suspects fired a warning shot into the air, forcing Mr Nyathi to take cover before the robbers fled the scene in the vehicle.

Police swiftly attended the scene, but no arrests have been made. Investigations are ongoing.

Commissioner Nyathi urged members of the public to assist law enforcement with any information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects or recovery of the vehicle.

"We appeal to anyone with information to contact their nearest police station," he said.

The incident comes amid a spike in armed robberies across the country, with criminals increasingly targeting individuals, institutions, and vehicles linked to Government departments. Police have intensified patrols and called for heightened public vigilance.
