The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) has arrested Detective Constable Collen Mwoyo, a police officer attached to the Minerals, Flora and Fauna Unit in Plumtree, for allegedly extorting US$1,000 from a local project manager.

Mwoyo was arrested on Tuesday in Bulawayo after falling into a trap set by ZACC investigators while attempting to collect the final instalment of the bribe.

ZACC Commissioner Mr Kindness Paradza confirmed the arrest, saying Mwoyo had targeted Mr Andrew Munemo, a project manager at Posse Solutions (Private) Limited, whom he had earlier arrested on September 23, 2025, for alleged robbery.

Mwoyo allegedly demanded US$1,000 from Munemo to avoid detention and prosecution. He received partial payments of US$500 and US$200 before demanding the remaining balance.

"On October 13, 2025, the accused arranged to meet the complainant at Bellevue Shopping Centre to collect the outstanding amount. ZACC officers set up a trap and arrested him soon after receiving US$120," said Mr Paradza.

Detective Constable Mwoyo is expected to appear in court on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, facing charges of extortion.

ZACC has reiterated its commitment to rooting out corruption across all sectors, including within law enforcement agencies.
