Diaspora-based critic of President Emmerson Mnangagwa, Susan Mutami, has accused the Zimbabwean leader of failing civil servants in matters of remuneration and welfare.

In a strongly worded post on X directed at civil servants, Mutami contrasted Mnangagwa’s leadership with that of Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.

"Dear Zimbabwean civil servants, both our leaders have the same 24hrs to make a difference in their citizens’ lives and I’m so proud of Anthony Albanese. He’s a good leader, a man who creates opportunities for all," Mutami posted.

She went on to urge civil servants to protest, saying, "ED clearly has failed you. Please stop embarrassing yourselves to the world, go and protest. Zimbabwe has minerals, only a few are benefiting and you are being abused. Don't be too comfortable with poverty."

Her remarks come amid public outcry over the government’s announcement of a US$150 special presidential bonus for civil servants, which will be disbursed in two tranches. Critics have slammed the branding of the bonus as politically manipulative, arguing that it undermines the dignity of public service and misrepresents taxpayer-funded allocations.
