Highlanders FC receives second US$250,000 instalment from Wicknell Chivayo

Highlanders Football Club has confirmed receiving a second US$250,000 payment from businessman Sir Wicknell Chivayo, part of his pledged US$1 million donation to support the club throughout the 2025 season.
In a statement released Tuesday, the club revealed that the total disbursed amount now stands at US$500,000, deposited into a trust account managed by the club's curator. The funds have been used to cover player welfare - including bonuses, travel, and match allowances - as well as infrastructure upgrades such as training pitch improvements and the construction of a perimeter wall at the Highlanders clubhouse.
Club Executive Chairman Retired Colonel Kenneth Mhlophe expressed gratitude for Chivayo's continued support. "The club believes this will improve the mood in the team and encourage better performances," he said.
Highlanders remain optimistic about receiving the remaining instalments, viewing Chivayo’s financial backing as a stabilizing force amid widespread financial challenges in Zimbabwean football.
