Newcomers Scottland FC have etched their name in Zimbabwean football history after clinching the 2025 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League title in their debut season - becoming only the second team to achieve the feat after Black Rhinos in 1984.

Popularly known as "Mabviravira," the Pedzisai "Scott" Sakupwanya-owned side sealed their remarkable triumph with an emphatic 5–1 victory over Kwekwe United at Ascot Stadium in Gweru on Sunday.

The win lifted Scottland FC to 65 points, seven clear of second-placed MWOS FC, with two matches to spare, making it mathematically impossible for any other team to catch them.

Scottland took control early, opening the scoring in the 27th minute through Khama Billiat, whose thunderous volley gave the Kwekwe United goalkeeper no chance. Five minutes later, Tymon Machope doubled the lead, putting the visitors firmly in control before halftime.

Despite dominating the second half, the champions squandered several clear-cut chances before Ronald Pfumbidzayi added a third in the 70th minute with a well-timed header.

Kwekwe United pulled one back through Takudzwa Chimhowa, but Scottland's dominance proved too much to contain.

In the closing stages, 16-year-old substitute Tadiwanashe Chakuchichi marked his Premier Soccer League debut with a goal in the 86th minute, making it 4–1. Machope then completed the rout from the penalty spot in injury time, sealing a statement win and a fairytale finish to the season.

The result confirmed Scottland FC's place in the annals of local football, as they matched a 41-year-old record set by Black Rhinos, who also won the league title in their debut top-flight season in 1984.

The club's owner, businessman Pedzisai "Scott" Sakupwanya, has repeatedly expressed his ambition to make Scottland FC one of the dominant forces in Zimbabwean football - a goal now realised in record time.

With two games still to play, Mabviravira are already looking ahead to representing Zimbabwe in next season's CAF Champions League, where they will test their credentials against some of the continent's best teams.

Scottland's rise - from a new franchise to national champions in one season - marks one of the most stunning success stories in Zimbabwe's football history.
