The Zimbabwe Republic Police has arrested seven suspects in connection with a series of armed robbery cases in Nyabira, Mashonaland West.
The suspects — Malvin Mohammed Maisiri (32), Leonard Mahwindo (26), Tension Mahwindo (26), Heavens Chimupenga (17), Moffat Mango (50), Kudakwashe Munemo (29) and Goodwill Muchimba (39) — are alleged to have been involved in multiple robberies, including a violent break‑in that occurred in the early hours of 5 May 2026.
According to police, the gang attacked a household at around 0300 hours, assaulting the complainant before demanding cash and valuables and ransacking the property. The robbery was disrupted when the complainant alerted neighbours, who quickly mobilised and rushed to the scene. As residents approached, the suspects attempted to flee.
Members of the public managed to apprehend one suspect, identified as Mohammed Hamandishe. Police officers later attended the scene and recovered a Retay pistol, nine live rounds, four blank rounds, and two pistol magazines.
Information obtained from the arrested suspect led to the identification and subsequent arrest of the remaining accomplices in Nyabira and Chitungwiza. Further recoveries included a Tokarev pistol, a magazine with one live round, a bolt cutter and a bicycle believed to have been used during the crimes.
Investigations indicate that the suspects may also be linked to three other armed robbery cases reported on 26 April 2026 in Nyabira, in which cash and household goods were stolen.
Police commended members of the public for their swift response and cooperation, which played a crucial role in the arrests. Authorities urged citizens to remain vigilant and continue working with law enforcement to combat crime.
The suspects are expected to appear in court soon as investigations continue.
